What Can You Power With The Yamaha EF2000iS?

Using inverter technology, the Yamaha EF2000iS provides very clean power, very similar to the power coming into your home. You can read about inverters here. This makes it ideal for powering all kinds of sensitive electronics, such as computers, gaming devices, phones, etc. With a rated output of 1600 watts, and 2000 watts max, this generator can also power many tools and appliances. Just to give you an idea, many electric space heaters, smaller cooling units, refrigerators and small to medium sized microwave ovens run on less than 1600 watts.

Its portable design and power output make it perfect, not only for outdoor activities like camping and running outdoor equipment, but also for powering appliances in your home during a power outage. You would not need to worry about your basement flooding when the sump pump fails or your food spoiling when the refrigerator goes out.

The generator also has 12 volt DC output and comes with battery charging cables, perfect for when your car battery needs a jump start.

How Easy Is It To Operate and Maintain?

Starting the generator is easy, usually requiring only a few pulls on the recoil cord.

It has a simple to use control panel. The fuel gauge, a fairly unique feature for this class of portable generators, is also very handy. This generator even has a warning system to tell you that the oil level is too low. The generator will not start or continue running if the oil level is low. Finally, it has an overload breaker and will shut down under overload conditions to prevent damage.

If you have two of these generators, they can be connected using special cables to run in parallel and provide twice the power!

How Portable Is It?

To be able to take a quiet, efficient power source to remote locations seems amazing to me. This generator is extremely small and compact for the power output it can produce. Weighing about 46 lb with a full tank, it can pretty easily be carried by one person. Its comfortable grip handle also makes it easy for one person to carry.

Taking up about 2.2 cubic feet, it is compact and easy to store. Dimensions are: 19.3 inches long, 11 inches wide, 17.9 inches high.

How Fuel Efficient Is It?

Another great feature of the Yamaha EF2000iS is its fuel efficiency. It can run up to 10.5 hours on a full tank (1.1 gallons) at a quarter load. Such efficiency is made possible by its Smart Throttle system, which adjusts engine speed according to the load.

How Quiet and Dependable Is It?

The noise level is extremely low for this size generator. Depending on the load, the noise level ranges between 51.5-61 decibels, which is lower than normal conversation level. This is a greatly desired feature, especially in recreational settings, like camping or an outdoor party, where people are talking and nobody wants to be hearing a loud generator.

What Kind Of Warranty Or Guarantee Comes With It?

The Yamaha EF2000iS comes with a 3 Year Limited Warranty!

What If I Need More Power?

For a little more power, the Yamaha EF2400iS And EF2800i are excellent upgrades. With a higher current output, they have superior ability to start motors and appliances that require more power on startup. They have all the features of the smaller 2000iS but provide more power, and with larger fuel tanks more hours of continuous operation. Although they are larger and weigh more, the EF2400iS weighing 75 lb and the EF2800i at 68 lb, they are still easily transported.

It’s worth noting that Honda has a 2000 watt inverter, comparable to the Yamaha EF2000iS. It does not, however, have these middle range generators. It jumps from the 2000 watt model to the 3000 watt generator.

Final Verdict

All equipment having a small internal combustion engine have an EPA rating for Emission Compliance Period. The Yamaha EF2000iS is rated for 500 hours, far above its competitors. In short, this generator is one of the most reliable, fuel efficient and quiet generators for its class. It is the number one rival to the Honda EU2000i, which you can read about here. I don’t think you can go wrong with either one!

While it is more costly than some up front, its longer life span and dependable performance (being able to count on it when you need it) makes it one of the most cost effective in the long run!

Having said this, you may still be looking for a cheaper alternative in the short term.

Well, you have given me food for thought here. I had really thought that the Honda 3000, mentioned in another article here, was the best fit for me but I really like the portability of this one. If I remember correctly it’s about 12 or more pounds lighter which would be great for me when I am setting up on my own.

The size of this generator is looking pretty nice compared to our big one. I understand the need for our bigger one, but this is a great small size. Interesting how quiet it is and I was impressed that one can hook a couple together. Nice for camping or outdoor activities!

One of the great features of this generator is that you can run two of them in parallel to double the power output. You can buy two of these for the same or maybe even a little less than the cost of the Honda EU3000i and still generate more power and also have more versatility! Thanks for posting.

Hmm, I am thinking after reading this that, there are are a lot of points that add up to a good reason to opt for quality rather than cheap in generators. I guess if I am actually going to use it I will want the better features this one has to offer. I guess it is just deciding how many watts I want. Thanks!

Exactly! Especially if you’re looking to buy a generator for emergency use, the most important consideration is its reliability. The last thing you need is a generator that fails when you need it the most.

That 500 hour lifespan is such a great selling point. In many thunderstorms where the power goes out, we aren’t sure when the power will be turned back on. Having that extremely long lifespan gives me peace of mind that it will take care of our needs.
